Good day everyone. Recently, blogs have become popular that evaluate the realism of equipment in Rainbos Six: Siege. I will try to disassemble weapons with gadgets of Special Forces operatives and give an answer: can this happen in reality??
Let’s start with the favorite of all hostages and allies, because his gadget in inept hands is capable of ruining the entire skating rink in one click. The KZ-3 “Matryoshka” cluster charge is capable of breaking through walls and releasing 5 mini-grenades that clear the territory. It can be installed on unreinforced walls and hatches, as well as on breakable but not completely destructible floors and on Castle armor panels. Its power is enough to disable any operative, as well as destroy the devices of the enemy team.
In real life, such a miracle device does not exist. But there are cluster bombs that are used in aviation. They are controllable and uncontrollable, resettable and non-resettable. Their weight can reach up to five tons, and the number of shells (damaging elements) in a bomb is more than one hundred. When triggered, the damaging elements are scattered over a large area and explode, thereby causing damage to enemy infantry. You can say that even if the gadget is fictitious, you can think about its creation and use.
“Matryoshka” by Shukhrat Kesikbaev can, in theory, be created. Its appearance is similar to the damaging part of the BLU-3 Pineapple cluster bomb, used by the Americans during the Vietnam War, and the design is not particularly complex. But another question will arise: how humane is this in relation to the environment??
It’s worth saying the same about the main weapon.
The AK-12 featured in the game has a beta version model. Officially, the new AK-12 entered service only at the end of January 2018, and it is very different from the machine gun that is presented in the game. Instead, you could take the AK-105, AK-74M, As "Val". But AK-Hi-teck is implemented well when compared with other AK implementations in other games.
In addition to the AK-12, the game features the Pecheneg bullpup PKP. This machine gun was specially designed for urban combat operations. By reducing weight, barrel length, Picatinny rails and a modified trigger mechanism, the firing capabilities of the barrel for urban combat were increased.
From the main weapon, Shukhrat can be armed with a shield. The Fuze shield is very similar to the one used by special forces during operations. Externally, the assault shield differs from its real counterpart: the window is much larger, the size is smaller and wider.
The choice of pistols is very strange: PMM and GSh-18. There are no complaints about the GSh-18: a barrel that is rare in games in “Siege” is implemented well: a rapid-fire, accurate and powerful barrel with a capacious magazine. But the same cannot be said about PMM. In the game it has a PM model, and in reality the Alpha group uses other pistols, such as the Swift and SR-1. And what’s strange is that with a weak cartridge it has the highest damage among pistols. Instead, it was possible to add an automatic pistol "Strizh" or "Pernach".
The implementation of the operative in the game is good: an interesting gadget, well-chosen weapons. But small mistakes spoil the impression of him.
The main camper in the Siege and the owner of a unique sniper rifle among the Rainbow operatives. Timur, which is the name of the special forces soldier, in addition to the IED, has at his disposal a unique gadget-sight. It allows you to increase magnification and also see through the smoke thanks to a thermal imager and IR illumination.
A similar gadget actually exists and is used in many armies and special forces around the world. Only the game version has several changes:
Firstly, in reality such a device is larger in size.
Secondly, you won’t find a combination of a conventional sight and a thermal imager. There are sights with a similar design in China, but they work separately, changing the “regular sight” / “thermal imager” mode.
Thirdly, installation of such sights takes a lot of time and requires additional equipment.
In its design, the “Pupil” is somewhat reminiscent of a magnification magnifier, which can be found in Battlefield 4, but in Siege, in addition to this mode, it has an additional infrared. As a result: a device similar to the “Pupil” exists in reality, but the real gadget has a different appearance and mode of operation.
The Eye’s main weapon is an IED. The shortened sniper rifle is made on the basis of the SVD and has a bullpup layout. It is in service with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation and enters service with special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation and the FSB. The IED in the game has a unique feature: breaking through bulletproof windows on the Air Force One map.
The operative is implemented in the game quite reliably. From the point of view of reality, weapons and devices for them are shown at a high level. And for the game, the developers made it a little simplified. Still, it would be correct, from my point of view, to make two modes: a regular sight and a thermal imager/IR sight with the ability to switch between them.
Maxim Basuda is one of my favorite operatives. At the beginning of the game, I began my journey by playing for a given operative, buying all the modules for his weapon, trying them out for each specific situation. And with his gadget he neutralized many inattentive opponents. And for me he still remains one of the best operatives for protection.
About the gadget. These are EDD MKII mine traps. They attach to doorways and windows and remove a portion of health when triggered, depending on the operator’s armor level. Can be destroyed by shot, explosion, EMP grenade and shock bot.
Before the patch of the third season of the second year, the gadget could kill almost all enemy operatives with an explosion, but the trap had a red laser detector and a mount was visible at the attachment point. At the moment, EDD MKII cannot one-shot, but it has become almost invisible to the enemy due to the colorless laser.
From Kapkan’s biography you can find out that his hobby is the design and assembly of traps and traps. We can say that the Kapkan trap is an improved and modified MON-50 – a domestic anti-personnel fragmentation mine of directed destruction. It only had a mount for installation in various places and a laser, which MONka does not have. And it is not clear how the mine distinguishes between opponents and allies. Apparently, a gaming convention.
In real life there are such devices: the USA has the M18A1 Claymore, the EU has the MRUD, and Asia has the Type 66. But as with the pupil of the Eye, they have a slightly different appearance.
One of the main barrels available to Tachankin, Kapkan and Finki is SASG-12, also known as Saiga-12. This self-loading shotgun is certified as a civilian weapon and service weapon, and is also used by private security companies. But, there is an option – 18.5 KS-K, which is officially adopted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. If the creators of the game had used the 18.5 KS-K model, it would have been a 100% hit.
In the end, we can say that the developers didn’t miss a beat with this operative. The selected uniforms are available to real FSB officers and are used during combat operations.
One of the favorites of the Siege community. The menacing, colorful and powerful Lord Tachankin immediately fell in love with many Siege fans. In reality, the Tachanka is a horse-drawn cart with a heavy machine gun pointing backwards.
As for the gadget, the stationary DP-28 machine gun raises many questions. If you read Alexander’s biography, you will find out that he has a collection of Soviet weapons and prefers simple and proven means to experimental devices. But, if you think about it: how and where does he carry a machine gun with him?? Behind the back is the main barrel, on the side is a pistol and gadgets. Where is the place for a special gadget??
And another question: how does Alexander http://casinoandfriend.co.uk/ Senaviev move with such weight?? The weight of DP-28 is more than 9 kg. Plus a considerable ammunition capacity of 4 kg. We add a three-legged body with shields and disks, which gives another 5-7 kilograms. We get almost 20 kg! If you do not take into account the main weapons, then this is a considerable weight, with which not every trained operative is able to move, not to mention combat operations. Externally, the Lord machine gun combines features of the DP-27 and RP-46. We can say that Ubisoft has created a kind of hybrid of two machine guns.
The second main weapon of the defenders is the 9x19VSN submachine gun, also known as PP-19-01 “Vityaz”. In real life, this PDW is a direct descendant of the legendary PP-19 "Bison" and is actually used by Special Forces operatives. And “Vityaz”, unlike “Bison”, was developed not on the basis of the AKS-74u, but on the AK-105, which was an analogue of “Ksyukha”. Overall, it’s nice to see a more modern version of the PP-19-01 and the development of this barrel.
As a result, we get dubious realism: The old LMG could be replaced with a PKM with a belt for 200 armor-piercing cartridges with a bipod, which could be installed on various horizontal surfaces and conduct targeted fire. As for me, it was a rather strange decision to create this operative, who turned out to be cool in appearance, but in terms of gameplay, unusable. It was possible to abandon this idea and introduce an operative from NRS-2 under the nickname “Wolverine”. He could silently eliminate opponents with a shooting knife and had average armor and speed.
New and currently only female Russian special forces operative in Siege. Lera Melnikova’s biography says that she managed to discover methods of treating various pathogenic factors and neuropathies with the help of drugs and self-dissolving nanobots. During the service, I met and became friends with our four from the special forces.
Nanobots Finki "Adrenaline Rush" work as follows. Introduced in advance, when activated, they provide a temporary increase in health, a reduction in recoil when shooting by 25%, the effect of flash-bang grenades is reduced, and the effect of the Grzmot mine wears off twice as fast. If the character is in the “fallen but not dead” state, he will return to duty with 25 health units. But there are also disadvantages. The gas from the Z8 Reagent charge will deal more damage and increase the range of the heartbeat sensor. The effects of the boost can be neutralized by firing a Yokai drone or passing through Gu mines. If Finka is near the Jammer, the nanobots will not be activated.
What about reality?? In fact, many countries’ armies use many drugs, drugs and stimulants. In the Russian army, drugs can be divided into three categories:
1. General use drugs – issued to each military personnel for individual and immediate use if necessary.
2. Drugs of limited use – issued under strict control only to perform certain tasks, or for use in emergency situations requiring the mobilization of incapacitated soldiers. The high effectiveness of these drugs is compensated by severe side effects or their narcotic effect.
3. Special action drugs – used by military doctors in special cases, since they do not have direct combat use.
Judging by the effect of nanobots, Finka has created a substance that combines the beneficial properties of several medicines.
For example:
• Anti-wound – used to stabilize severe wounds characterized by extensive damage to the skin and internal organs.
• Stvolozipam – used to increase the physical strength and moral stability of fighters before battle.
• eX-change – used during the evacuation of the wounded, or to quickly restore a soldier’s combat effectiveness after a minor injury.
• Cardofrin is a fast-acting cardiac stimulant. Adrenaline derivative.
• Metformin is an effective pain reliever.
As a result, we can say that this ability actually exists in real life. Not as futuristic as in the game, but close to real. After all, anything can happen on the battlefield and several drugs can raise a fallen enemy to his feet. But there are no universal remote-controlled nanobots yet, and in reality soldiers would rather stab each other, which in the game is implemented in the form of a tactical pat on the stomach.
One of Finka’s main guns is the Spear assault rifle .308. This is a real prototype of the Sarych assault rifle chambered for NATO cartridge 7.62×51. There is very little information about this weapon. Just a few articles in magazines and a couple of mentions on websites. I was quite pleasantly surprised to see this weapon in the game.
Performance characteristics of the Sarych assault rifle:
Caliber: 7.62 mm
Ammunition: 7.62×51 mm NATO (.308 Win.)
Length: 806/706 mm,
Barrel length: 622/522 mm
Weight (unloaded): 4 kg.
Feed: 30-round detachable box magazine.
This weapon, in theory, could fall into the hands of Finke, since special forces can use “exotic” barrels to carry out combat operations.
The implementation of such an operative is done at a good level. There is a place for such operatives in special forces during combat operations. But for the game, the developers made some tricks and simplified some treatment conventions and the use of combat drugs.
In the end, I would like to say that in games of this level you rarely see well-made Russian operatives. Yes, they turned out to be a little believable and clumsy in places, but this is still head and shoulders above the fighters from Battlefield or Call of Duty. I hope that in the next part of Siege, if there is one, Ubisoft will be more careful and correct their shortcomings.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege
Best comments
In principle, the mower could be awarded purely for the positivity 😀
Well done author, good material!
Don’t take the liberties taken in Rainbow Six so seriously. This is a game from the world of Tom Clancy. And he wrote about alternative history. Everything is the same as ours, but with some differences. In games based on his alternative history, there were all sorts of slightly (or a lot) futuristic things that do not exist in reality. The example that immediately comes to mind is Sam Fisher’s super-duper visor, which was compact and combined first two – night vision and a thermal imager, and then a third vision mode – electromagnetic? (you could see objects in which there was current), it seems there was another mode in Conviction, but I don’t remember. I haven’t played Black List.I also remember the pilot assistance system in HAWX. Or all sorts of futuristic bells and whistles in Ghost Recon. And there may be even more examples, I just forgot a lot, and some are not enough to mention)
A moment of tediousness:
1) The FSB assault shield is Vant-VM;
2) PP-19-01 is not exactly PDW. It is important to remember that PDW =/= PP. PDW, as a rule, is something between a small-sized assault rifle (AKS-74U, 9A-91) and a PP (PP-19 “Bizon”, PP-2000). If Vityaz is considered a PDW, then only if armor-piercing cartridges are shoved into it (7N31, for example).
So, good material.
Thanks for the goodness. Educational function to the fullest. Know ours!)
As for the inconsistencies, they are obvious and justified.
1) This is a fictional universe of alternative history – I can do whatever I want
2) Game balance requirements – performance characteristics and functions can be tweaked
3) Art design – fighters must be not only effective, but also spectacular! Hence all these carts and stuff.
It’s all the more useful to tell and show players how it really is. Thank you.
P.WITH.
If only someone could gather such fighters in real life and show how such a fighter would actually act, taking into account real conditions and capabilities)
No, there is also LFP586, Keratos .357 and D-50, they have more damage (some have MUCH), this was just for the sake of words?
I would say, on the contrary – he is generally NO operative with good (relatively) weapons. Because Sij is not a game where they will calmly let you approach an unfortified wall/door/window/floor, place a matryoshka doll and release a full clip of charges at a point that will kill EVERYONE. He might be a good operator for new players, but for the average player he’s a rearguard.
Well, if you don’t call it “Tachanka”, then why not – why wouldn’t there be a DP on a tripod in life, except that such a device is not being used NOW, but in general it’s quite possible. By the way, for information – at the release the Tachanka machine gun was WITHOUT a shield, and it was “buffed” a little by installing armored glass, because at the release there was no benefit from it from the word “at all”, such things.
But there are also disadvantages. The gas from the Z8 Reagent charge will deal more damage and increase the range of the heartbeat sensor.
Here I would like to clarify for clarity – due to increased adrenaline in the blood, the breathing rate increases, and toxic gas enters the lungs faster, and, accordingly, causes more damage, and due to the increased heartbeat caused by increased adrenaline levels, the pulse sensor sees this at a greater distance.
As a result, we can say that this ability actually exists in real life. Not as futuristic as in the game, but close to real.
Just the other day, Anton from the Master Play channel on YouTube dedicated an entire 10-minute video to her abilities. And not just “anti-wound”, but specifically NANObots and NANOmedicine, it would be very good for you to familiarize yourself, because the introduction of nanobots with their subsequent remote activation is possible, although it is currently in the form of a prototype. So, as for me, the area with the army (lol) first aid kit is superfluous. And what about “treatment”, here the situation is completely different – the developers initially said that this operative is not engaged in “treatment”, his job is to “stimulate” his brothers in arms in a moment of danger. Here’s an example with a field doctor with an adrenaline syringe in his heart – that’s it: to raise the wounded and increase the reflexes of the healthy (it’s not for nothing that under Finka’s buff, aiming is faster and the barrel wobbles less). She herself even shouts “ADRENALINE”!!» before boost. So you haven’t sorted out the operative, comrade author.
Superficial googling showed that such a machine gun does not exist, and in fact this is the thesis work of some student who positioned it as a SEMI-automatic carbine, more details here.
If you make more parts, then be more careful in collecting information; some information on other operatives and their abilities can only be found on English-language sites. And there are plenty of videos on YouTube about the realism of operas, not for all, but for many
Maybe it’s not worth it, but since the author decided to devote the article to these inaccuracies – and why not?? There is no outright flame here, everything is fair and to the point. And in theory, only those who are interested in this topic will read this.
I’m even pleasantly surprised that such a topic made it to the main page, SG, in my experience, doesn’t really like IRL militarism
Don’t trust the BF series, because according to their version, AS “Val” is PDW (in 4 parts). And in general, terminological repetition, in principle, does not bring anything bad.
Sorry, I’m just used to the fact that such words are accompanied by text in the spirit of “this just a game, SO FUCK OFF NERD”.
By the way…
Is Rainbow Six actually an alternative history?? To be honest, I haven’t read the biographies of operas since blue-haired whore Ella, but I don’t remember at all that there were any deviations from historical events in the lore. The near future is possible. But it’s strange to dismiss cavils with such wording.
Very good blog! I would like to see something similar about other special forces presented in the game (or at least about those that were there from the very beginning of the game, because the latest characters already show a clear predominance of gaming conventions so that they stand out from the rest).
Allow me, as they say, to fuck. The eye has an absolutely real gadget. Or rather there are two of them. The first is a red dot sight. Exactly the same ones are available to all Special Forces operatives. The second is a magnifer, a magnification magnifier. Magnifer in real life tilts to the side, just like in the game, allowing you to shoot through the collimator without zoom. The magical properties of seeing through smoke and highlighting enemies have already been added to increase the playability of the character. There is no device that can see through smoke. But a thermal imager works completely differently.
About the AK-12, I’ll also add that the machine gun that Fuse is holding in his hands is real. Sample from 2012. As the author wrote, what is now adopted for service under the name AK-12 is completely different. This is an AK-74M with a different body kit and a modified gas exhaust unit. I didn’t find anything about the fate of the real AK-12. He did not join our army. I think it exists as a small batch.
The comment is not a reproach to the author, but for greater clarity 🙂
I wrote somewhere about flames or that such articles are not needed? No. On the contrary, the author clearly knows more about weapons than I do and I was interested in learning new information for myself. Thanks to him for this. But why did I write that comment?? Yes, because the author was hooked by this difference between the game and reality. And it seems he didn’t know that the game was about an alternative history. It may differ from the real world. Why did I think he was hooked?? Pay attention to these quotes: “The implementation of the operative in the game is good: an interesting gadget, well-chosen weapons. But small mistakes spoil the impression of him.", "The implementation of such an operative is done at a good level. There is a place for such operatives in special forces during combat operations. But for the game, the developers made some tricks and simplified some treatment conventions and the use of combat drugs.", "In the end, I would like to say that in games of this level you rarely see well-made Russian operatives. Yes, they turned out to be a little believable and clumsy in places, but this is still head and shoulders above the fighters from Battlefield or Call of Duty. I hope that in the next part of Siege, if there is one, Ubisoft will be more careful and correct their shortcomings» . The author considered all these differences from reality to be errors. That’s why I wrote that comment. To indicate that the author himself made a mistake while blaming others for the mistake.
Z.s. I didn’t want to offend or offend anyone, that’s why I only wrote that these assumptions are acceptable *BA-DUM-TSS*. But it seems some people need clarification. And I know that all this blaming the author for a mistake is full of my mistakes. I sit at the computer a lot and don’t do my Russian homework.
I’ll start in order:
1. Pistols. I did not take into account the Deagle with a revolver, because these are large-caliber pistols. Among the standard 9mm, the PM has the highest damage, but it does not have the PMM cartridge, which is almost comparable to the 9×19.
2. About Matryoshka. I played as Fuze several times and was able to use his gadget. But, even if you don’t use his gadget, his weapons are one of the best in Siege (a convenient machine gun and a good assault rifle, and a shield).
3. About Tachanka. If you read carefully, you will understand why I called it dubious realism (weight and size of the gadget + basic equipment).
4. About nanobots Finki. I have nothing to add here. And, alas, I haven’t played for it (I haven’t purchased it yet).
5. I separately mentioned the video with Finka in the comments. It came out later than I published the blog. And among the drugs there are analogues of adrenaline.
P.S: when I served in the military, at one time I had the position of gunner-medic. And in addition to the main uniform, he carried with him a hefty honey.a bag containing: “splint”, bandages, tourniquets, tablets, soda, iodine, pins..
And I mean, at the moment, as stated in the video, there are no nanobots that can cure and raise a soldier almost instantly. This is why soldiers have individual first aid kits and/or orderlies. And besides, if I’m not mistaken, they practically don’t do this in Russia. Therefore, I used what is actually available among military medicines and compared it with Finka’s ability.
6. About "Sarych". One of the proofs about a modification for the army in the form of a machine gun. Proof
I’ll try to be more precise next time in blogs like this. I take information from both domestic and foreign sources.
And the very creation and existence of Rainbow Six is not confusing? The international anti-terrorist unit, which does not exist in reality, is already talking about alternative history) But in general… The question is interesting and not very simple. At least collect information and start writing your blog) Playing these games and seeing the magical inscription “Tom Clancy’s” automatically unites them. Somehow it never occurred to me that they might not be on the same timeline, because they don’t seem to interfere with each other. Here you need to dig a little..
Splinter Cell, HAWX, Ghost Recon are definitely related to each other and they seem to be connected to End War (I played it a long time ago and don’t remember). They originated as game series. Clancy didn’t write anything about them (I haven’t read it and I could be wrong). And perhaps they are not related to Rainbow Six… But! There is another alternative story thanks to which Clancy became famous. This is the so-called Ryanverse. And the number of books that relate to it includes another one with a familiar name – Rainbow Six. There is also a character in this series of books. Whose name is John Clark. Head of Rainbow Six Division. And he’s connected to another character. With Jack Rhyne. Who even managed to become president. President… “Ryan became president as a result of a kamikaze pilot attack that destroyed the Senate along with the entire government”… You still doubt that this is an alternative history?) This is only a superficial search and I haven’t even taken a closer look at the works. Surely events could have happened there that just wouldn’t happen without everyone’s awareness.
Yes, the first universe is more futuristic, affects the world more strongly, and its events affect the future more strongly (in End War at the time of 2015, the Third World War began, then it seems there was a BOOM because of which The Division can be added to the list, but I don’t know it at all) and because of all this, they are more difficult for some to accept. And here is the second episode… Ryanuniverse. If you don’t know about the existence of books and only take into account games, then it may seem that these games are very close to the real world).
Is Rainbow Six actually an alternative history?? I honestly haven’t read the biographies of operas since the days of the blue-haired whore Ella, but I don’t remember at all that there were any deviations from historical events in the lore.
But is the origin of the events of the game in alternative history does not justify the difference in the equipment of the fighters fictional divisions?)
