Valheim game world. Part 1.

Hello everyone, this is Woe journalists and today we will try to understand the lore of the world of Valheim, or rather the history of its creation and existence before the arrival of the player.

I think some of you definitely didn’t think about how, why and by whom this world was created, populated and plunged into oblivion, and some found only grains of the history of Valheim by studying rune stones that often come across on the way.

Valheim, the tenth world located under the branches of the world tree Yggdrasil. Within the framework of real mythology, this world does not exist, but the developers tried to correctly fit it into the logic of the universe of the ancient Scandinavians, and not destroy the map of the cosmos that has developed over centuries.

The tenth world was created, like the others, from the body of the giant Ymir. At the beginning of its existence, Valheim was located under the branches of the world tree. There is no specific point on the map, but let’s place it somewhere here. between Midgard, the world of people, and Vanaheim, very consonant with the world of the Vanir.

By the way, the name also says a lot. Valheim, as we have already said, is very consonant with Vanaheim and is a composite, like many names of other worlds. Second part of the word "heim" means home, shelter.Let’s say Helheim is the refuge of the goddess Hel. It’s simple.Perhaps the first part of the word "val" carries some meaning, but we are not philologists and found only one mention in the old Norwegian-Russian dictionary.

"Val" – battlefield or https://casinocasino-com.uk shallow bay. The bays are of little interest to us, but the “Land for War” is for battle. sounds good and makes sense. But this is all not certain. Let’s assume that the developers accidentally came up with a sonorous name for both the game and the tenth world of Scandinavian mythology.

But let’s get back to history.

Valheim quietly existed and developed for a long time, like other worlds. Its territory was inhabited by a proud, noble people, echoes of whose life we sometimes encounter in the game. According to one of the rune stones, these people were very successful in construction and mining, but their ambitions led them to war with the gods: "They challenged the gods themselves and declared war on the Aesir and the Vanir, leaving themselves no chance of survival. The Great Odin razed their cities to the ground, and Loki set fire to the mines. The mighty Thor destroyed their towers, and Freya sowed their fields with salty tears. ". The happy existence of Valheim ended here.

In real mythology, there is a period of war between the Aesir and the Vanir, we assume that somewhere at this point the people of Valheim rebelled and got involved in the war of the gods. In the process of large-scale dominance of the Aesir, and specifically Odin, on the territory of all worlds, the Allfather decided to make a real prison out of Valheim. Before this, however, he carried out a complete genocide of the population on the territory of Valheim and thereby predetermined the fate of this flourishing world.

In the text introduction, at the beginning of the game, it is said that Odin imprisoned his “enemies” in Valheim, and then more specific information appears on one of the rune stones that the “fallen” are imprisoned here. These are the greatest creatures of the Vanir, giants and ancient creatures that could not be killed. That is, game bosses.

In order to protect himself from the threat, Odin cut down the branches under which the tenth world rested and sent it to drift in exile. Valheim was forgotten, lost and existed for a long time without the supervision of the gods. That same proud people, as we said above, was destroyed. At the moment, you can see their corpses in the form of Draugr, which are often found in the swamps. After all, we remember that Freya, according to legend, sowed their lands with salty tears. There were no more people or more or less civilized existence on the territory of Valheim, before the arrival of the player and his early predecessors, in the person of a certain Astrid and Ulf the Brave, who left the rune stones. And goblin camps don’t count, they don’t even have a written language.

And now we need to go back to the map. Let’s assume that Valheim has been simply moving around Yggdrasil all this time, somewhere between Midgard and Asgard. It will be easier this way, and then we will tell you why.

A long time in oblivion served to the advantage of the “fallen”, who began to gain strength. This, again, is stated in the text introduction. One, sensing a growing threat, decided to arrange a game. Yes, there is no other way to say it, because the players are dead warriors who are trying to earn their place in Valhalla.Valhalla pops up so often in modern pop culture and games for a reason. In fact, this is paradise, one of the versions of paradise for the Scandinavians. Warriors who died in battle ended up in Valhalla, and not all of them, but only half. The second part went to Folkwang, this is such a steep large meadow where it is always warm and nice, but that’s not about that now.So, Valhalla is a very prestigious place for the dead. Almost all warriors want to get there, a huge layer of the Viking worldview is built on this, and it is for this reason that Odin decided to exploit the poor dead souls and choose those worthy of Valhalla by defeating the “fallen” imprisoned in Valheim.

"He looked around Midgard and sent his Valkyries to find the greatest warriors in it. dead, they will be reborn again in Valheim".

Therefore, we assumed that the tenth world is drifting somewhere between Asgard and Midgard. It’s easier for Odin to keep an eye on the players’ progress, and the flight to Valkyrie Airlines from the game’s intro is not very long. And at this moment, everyone who wants to defeat all the “fallen”, or simply build an analogue of the Millennium Falcon, gets into the game.

Welcome! And here in front of you is a huge world with a long history, and it seems. Everything is fine. You have been resurrected, the grass is tickling your heels, there is a bright sky above your head with the remains of the branches of Yggdrasil. Wise Hugin gives you another hint on how to cut down trees. My soul is easy. The gameplay is engaging, the hours fly by like minutes, and you don’t notice how you’re spending dozens or even hundreds of hours in prison. In a world destroyed by the gods, in a world where the majority of creatures are resurrected from the dead, in a world from which you are not guaranteed to get out.
